South American – African Astronomy Coordination Committee (SA3CC) Meeting 2023

August 1-2, 2023

The next AMLIGHT SA3CC face-to-face/virtual meeting will be hosted by Florida International University on August 1-2, 2023. The SA3CC is a standing committee that was established in conjunction with the AmLight network – a project sponsored by the NSF International Research Network Connections (IRNC) program. SA3CC is comprised of representatives from the various astronomy projects operating observatories in South America, and network operators of the research and education networks in South America and Africa. The goals of the SA3CC are to provide input and advice to the AmLight Principal Investigator on program and network activities and to serve as a venue for coordinating the network needs of astronomy projects and institutions. Please register in advance and book your hotel by July 17More details here

Florida International University hosted a two-week Advanced Cyberinfrastructure Coordination Ecosystem: Services & Support (ACCESS) STEP 1 workshop for students from various universities. During the workshop, the students had an exceptional opportunity to visit multiple laboratories at the FIU Engineering Center, including the Wall of Winds laboratory, RFCOM, Millimeter-Waves & Terahertz Lab team, the Transforming Antennas Center, and the Smart Grid Test-Bed Laboratory. REUNA and eight other Academic Networks sign an agreement to promote the Earth Observation Strategy

As part of the Digital Alliance between Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean, the National Research and Education Networks (NREN) of seven countries, along with RedCLARA, have signed an agreement. This agreement aims to promote the adoption, training, deployment, and advancement of the Earth observation strategy in the region. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aims to deploy the Earth Observation Strategy, which was presented in November 2022, in Montevideo, Uruguay, and which includes institutions such as the Copernicus Earth Observation Program , the Group on Earth Observation (GEO) , the Earth Observation Framework for the Americas, AmeriGEO , and the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI).
