AmLight played a pivotal role in hosting Network Research Exhibitions

November 11-17, 2023

AmLight played a pivotal role in hosting Network Research Exhibitions, contributing to high-performance showcases for Research and Educational Networks (RENs). Two featured demonstrations included AmLight 2.0: Flexible control, deep visibility, and programmability @ Tbps! and Turbocharging 100G Link: A High-Speed Data Filling Demo from South Africa to Denver! These demonstrations highlighted AmLight’s hybrid network approach, utilizing optical spectrum and leased capacity to establish a reliable infrastructure. The showcase also introduced AmLight’s custom Software-Defined Networking (SDN) fabric, enabling experimentation with P4 and flexible forwarding pipelines. Additional NREs were supported over the AmLight infrastructure  … Read More

AmLight highlighted in the news: HPC Wire: The Annual SCinet Mandala

November 30, 2023

SC featured the latest and fastest hardware on the planet. Including the latest and greatest connectivity on the planet makes sense. One example involves a telescope in Chile that can capture gigapixel images of faraway galaxies and send them to the rest of the world through the Florida International University in Miami fiber. AmLight (Americas Lightpaths), the network behind the project that makes the high-speed connection possible, demonstrated steaming data to SC23 show floor. There are not many locations that can provide 400G network endpoint to test connectivity. Another research goal comes into play when considering that all the latest and generated vendor-donated equipment must work together for SCinet to achieve its goal … Read More

From the Ground to the Stars: Critical Big-Data Research in Africa

December 13, 2023

The sciences of observational astronomy, biology, medicine, geology, and genomics have many things in common, but two of the biggest are their dependence on high-performance networking and high-throughput computing (HTC) and the critical importance of cutting-edge research and researchers based in Africa. Many of the largest and most subscribed telescope arrays in the world are in the southern hemisphere – e.g. Chile, Australia, and South Africa, which offer excellent viewing conditions. Many locations in Africa offer equally superb conditions for biological, geological, and seismic field stations, and African researchers are in the top tier pursuing globally vital innovations in medicine, epidemiology, and genomics … Read More

rednesp breaks academic data transmission record at Supercomputing 2023

December 5, 2023

At the Supercomputing 2023 conference in Denver, Colorado, rednesp (Research and Education Network at São Paulo) achieved a groundbreaking academic data transmission record, signaling its prowess in global data connectivity. Coordinated by Professor Harvey Newman from the California Institute of Technology, the demonstration aimed to create a global data tsunami. Rednesp contributed 260 Gbps (4% of the total) to the joint transmission of 6.2 Tbps, showcasing its capacity to transmit large project data. The Backbone SP, inaugurated earlier in 2023 and supported by FAPESP, played a pivotal role in connecting eight leading academic institutions in São Paulo to international networks, emphasizing rednesp’s position at the forefront of global academic data transmission capabilities … Read More on Portuguese
