At the Supercomputing 2023 conference in Denver, Colorado, rednesp (Research and Education Network at São Paulo) achieved a groundbreaking academic data transmission record, signaling its prowess in global data connectivity. Coordinated by Professor Harvey Newman from the California Institute of Technology, the demonstration aimed to create a global data tsunami. Rednesp contributed 260 Gbps (4% of the total) to the joint transmission of 6.2 Tbps, showcasing its capacity to transmit large project data. The Backbone SP, inaugurated earlier in 2023 and supported by FAPESP, played a pivotal role in connecting eight leading academic institutions in São Paulo to international networks, emphasizing rednesp’s position at the forefront of global academic data transmission capabilities.
