South America and South Africa establish their first direct connection
September 19, 2020The BGP peer uses the AmLight link through the SACS (South Atlantic Cable System) and WACS (West African Cable System) submarine cables. SACS is the first cabling system between Fortaleza, in Brazil, and Sangano, in Angola, and also the first modern submarine cable that runs from east and west in the South Atlantic region. The exchange point in Fortaleza is operated by the Brazilian academic network, RNP. The link has 100 Gbps and establishes direct communication with less latency, enabling the improvement in communication between the two continents and direct South-South collaboration in areas such as Science, Education and technological development, among others … Read More

RNP joins the RPKI project, a worldwide network security project
September 10, 2020RNP reached an important milestone in network security, with the registration of all its 39 IP blocks in the RPKI (Resource Public Key Infrastructure) project. RPKI is a resource certification system, which validates the source of IP routing advertisements and allows the user to avoid security attacks involving traffic capture, also known as hijacking. According to data from NIST, the US National Institute for Standards and Technology, RNP is now included in the 32% of valid IP address prefixes in the Latin America and Caribbean region, managed by the Latin America and Caribbean Network Information Center (LACNIC). Being a part of the global RPKI infrastructure is considered the first step in raising the level of maturity of network security with regard to global validation, as this ensures protection of prefixes, since the other members, such as the major global providers, can block invalid prefixes… Read More English | Portuguese

Nicaragua starts transferring data via RedCLARA
September 22, 2020Nicaragua and Honduras are now connected to RedCLARA. The connection took place on June 10 and August 18 and was succeeded by the start of the testing and sending of IP addresses of member institutions of RUNBA (the academic network of Nicaragua) and REDNESAH (Honduran academic network) by BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) to the Latin American collaboration network. The Nicaraguan network concluded its process on September 21, allowing the National Agricultural University of Nicaragua (UNA) to transmit data through RedCLARA. This is how the long-awaited reconnection of Nicaragua to the Latin American network was established … Read More

CFP: CNERT 2021: Workshop on Computer and Networking Experimental Research using Testbeds in conjunction with IEEE INFOCOM 2021
May 10, 2021, virtual workshopExperimentation has played an important role in advancing research in computing and networking. Although simulation is an important tool for studying and analyzing the behavior of new protocols and algorithms, it is essential that new research ideas be validated on real systems, testbeds, and infrastructure that provides a platform for exploring new systems. This workshop brings together researchers and technical experts to share experiences and advance the state of the art in experimental research in areas such as networking, distributed systems, and cloud computing. It aims to inspire researchers to use testbeds in novel and interesting ways as a means to validate research ideas. Of particular interest are experiments on publicly available testbeds such as GENI, the Fed4FIRE+ testbeds, Emulab, CloudLab, Chameleon, DeterLab, ORBIT, OneLab, FIT, PlanetLab, CENI, FABRIC, EMPOWER, COSMOS, POWDER, AERPAW (future), among many others. The CNERT workshop has a strong experimental component and includes a demo session … Read More
