Job Summary

The Center for Internet Augmented Research and Assessment (CIARA) at Florida International University’s Modesto Maidique Campus is recruiting a graduate computer science and/or engineering level Student IT Research Assistant Associate to join their team of professionals. The position will participate in projects to support research between the U.S. and South America. The student will get exposure to novel networking and software development concepts and techniques, state-of-the art technology, and experience supporting projects that benefit more than 2,000 institutions in South America.

Duties to include:

  • Assists the IT Associate Director and CIARA’s Network Engineerig Team in the fields of software development, DevOps, Machine Learning, and scalability, as well as in the computer networking / IT fields.
  • Maintains research project findings and reports.
  • Assists with troubleshooting system issues.
  • Assists the team to fulfill the goals and objectives of research projects

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current FIU graduate students majoring in CS/IT or graduate students with a minor in CS/IT.
  • GPA 2.5 or higher.
  • Willing to work on software development or networking field.
  • Ability to travel with network engineers to data centers in downtown Miami and Boca Raton
  • At least 3 semesters of FIU work experience or related experience outside the University with satisfactory or higher from prior student appointment.
  • Requires a letter of recommendation from one prior supervisor.
  • Requires prior completion of FIU Service Excellence training or completion within first 30 days.
  • Ability to work remotely if necessary.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Advanced proficiency of Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Ability to take direction and work independently as needed.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with highly sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of PC operations and specialized software programs, such as PantherSoft
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally, and in writing.
  • Possess a high sense of responsibility and customer service skills.
  • Ability to solve problems independently.
  • Organizational and time-management skills.

Student Disclosure

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
  • Upon graduating, student employment must end.

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 9am – 5pm (Up to 20 hours/week)

IT CIARA will make it’s best effort to tailor to the student’s curriculum and class requirements.

Advertised Salary

$15.00/hour to $25.00/hour
