Job Summary

The Senior Software Developer will support the Division of Information Technology’s Center for Internet Augment Research and Assessment (CIARA) to develop software applications for troubleshooting and improving the operations of a software defined networking (SDN) production environment that supports research and education activities between the U.S. and the nations of Latin America and the Caribbean.

  • Writing reusable, testable, and efficient code
  • Designing and implementing highly-available and high-performance applications.
  • Optimizing SDN applications for maximum speed and scalability.
  • Writing code using OO concepts, design patterns, and various open-source toolkits and frameworks.
  • Analyzing, debugging, and delivering clean, validated, maintainable code.
  • Troubleshooting technical and non-technical issues related to existing applications.
  • Interacting with external parties to develop compatible APIs.
  • Defining an API to be used for users interested in real-time network monitoring data.
  • Expanding the AmLight SDN controller to support on-demand monitoring for SDN circuits.
  • Developing a high-performance monitoring collector system.
  • Working with Kytos software development team towards solving problems affecting the AmLight SDN Looking Glass system.
  • Expanding the AmLight SDN Looking Glass to gather and process all data coming from monitoring sensors;
  • Performing other related duties as required or directed by supervisor. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Studies, or other technical discipline and five (5) years related experience OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Departmental Requirements

Experience with Python 3.5+
Capable of working in a Linux environment, specifically Debian and CentOS

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge of basic network concepts and protocols is highly desired;
Knowledge of Python network libraries is highly desired;
Experience with OpenFlow or P4 is a plus;
Experience with contributing to free software projects is a plus;
Experience with Docker or Kubernetes is a plus;
Basic knowledge of tcpdump or libpcap is a plus;
Basic knowledge of networking is a plus;
