{"id":1403,"date":"2015-06-01T19:53:18","date_gmt":"2015-06-01T19:53:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/amlight.net\/?p=1403"},"modified":"2023-07-21T13:14:18","modified_gmt":"2023-07-21T17:14:18","slug":"atlanticwave-sdx-a-distributed-intercontinental-experimental-software-defined-exchange-for-research-education-networking-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amlight.net\/?p=1403","title":{"rendered":"AtlanticWave-SDX: A Distributed Intercontinental Experimental Software Defined Exchange for Research &#038; Education Networking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Miami, Florida, April 15, 2015 \u2013\u00a0Florida International University\u2019s Center for Internet Augmented Research and Assessment (CIARA) is pleased to announce AtlanticWave-Software Defined Exchange: A Distributed Intercontinental Experimental Software Defined Exchange (SDX) <a href=\"http:\/\/nsf.gov\/awardsearch\/showAward?AWD_ID=1451024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/nsf.gov\/awardsearch\/showAward?AWD_ID=1451024\">NSF Award ACI#1451024<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Software Defined Networking (SDN) deployments that cross multiple domains are constructed manually, involving significant coordination and effort by network operators. \u00a0Americas Lightpaths (AmLight) is a production infrastructure for communication and collaboration between the U.S. and Western Hemisphere science and engineering research and education communities. In August 2014, AmLight evolved to become a full SDN. Demand is growing to develop the capability to support end-to-end network services, capable of spanning multiple SDN domains.<\/p>\n<p>Capabilities and resources to operate multi-domain\/multi-layer SDN networks must evolve in order for the delivery of end-to-end services to scale. In response Florida International University (FIU) and Georgia Institute of Technology (GT) are collaborating on the AtlanticWave-SDX: a distributed experimental <a href=\"http:\/\/noise-lab.net\/projects\/software-defined-networking\/sdx\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/noise-lab.net\/projects\/software-defined-networking\/sdx\/\">SDX<\/a>, supporting research, experimental deployments, prototyping and interoperability testing, on national and international scales.
